October 19 is the day Streptomycin was discovered

Streptotricin was discovered on October 1943, 19 by Albert Shats (1920-2005) and Zelman Waxman (1888-1973). However, these antibiotics were not widely accepted by the testers because they were composed of potent toxins.The separation and study of these antibiotics led to the emergence in 1943 by Waxman and his colleagues of the wonderful antibiotic drug streptomycin. The discovery of streptomycin and the determination of its beneficial properties led to the emergence of other antibiotic flammable substances. Extensive research has led to the emergence of accumulations of chloromycetin (chloramphenicol), neomycin, chlortetracycline, tetracycline and other remarkably biologically active substances. The most valuable aspect of the creation of streptomycin was that a positive result was achieved in the treatment of tuberculosis. Streptomycin belongs to the type of aminoglycoside antibiotics (these antibiotics suppress protein synthesis). In 1952, Waxman was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiological Medicine as “the first antibiotic inventor to fight tuberculosis”.
