Today, August 10, is the day the island of Madagascar was discovered

On August 1500, 10, the island of Madagascar was discovered by the Portuguese sailor Bartolomeu Dias.

It should be noted that this discovery was completely accidental.

While traveling to India, the sailor encountered the island of Madagascar on the way.

The traveler thought that this was the east of Africa, and he tried to sail north to find the port of Mozambique, but all his efforts were in vain.

Diash was far from the ground when he headed north.

Realizing that he had come across a big island, Diash went back and filled his drinking water supply.

The sailor who discovered the island wanted this area to be called San Lorenzo, but this name has not survived to this day.
