Today, August 17, is the day when the phenomenon of photosynthesis was discovered

On August 1771, 17, English researcher Joseph Priestley discovered the phenomenon of photosynthesis.

Conducting various experiments, the scientist noticed that in a candle burning in a sealed container, the air was "broken" (the air stopped supporting combustion and the housed animals began to suffocate) and was "purified" by plants.

Priestley realized that plants release oxygen, but he did not realize that plants need light to do this.
