Today, November 4, is the day Columbus discovered the island of Guadeloupe

On November 1493, 4, during his second expedition, Christopher Columbus discovered the island of Guadeloupe.

Before the discovery of Guadeloupe by Columbus, the island was inhabited by Indians, who gave the island the name, translated from the local language, which means "island of beautiful waters".

After the discovery of the island, the Spanish made two attempts to capture it, but both of these attempts were repulsed by fierce resistance from the Caribs who were defending their freedom.

In 1604, the Spanish gave up their attempts to conquer the island, but 30 years later, in 1635, the French established their rule on the island.
