October 9 - World Post Day - is one of the international days celebrated in the United Nations. It is held annually on October 9, 14, the day the union was formed, in accordance with the decision of the 1874th Congress of the Universal Postal Union. This day was declared International Post Day by the Congress of the International Postal Union in 1969 in Tokyo. On October 1874, 9, representatives of 22 states, as well as Russia, signed the Berne Treaty in Bern (Switzerland). In 1878, the union was renamed the Universal Postal Union. To date, the Universal Postal Union has covered 192 countries. International Letters Week kicks off worldwide on October 9th.
