August 19 - World Humanitarian Day

Every year on August 19, World Humanitarian Day is celebrated to pay tribute to the humanitarian workers who provide aid and assistance to those affected by crises around the world. He was recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in 2008 when the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq, was bombed in 2003, tragically killing 22 humanitarian workers, including the Secretary-General's Special Representative for Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello. designated for commemoration.

Humanitarian Day is an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the sacrifice of aid workers who often risk their lives to help others.

This day reminds us of our shared responsibility to help those in need and encourages everyone to take action by volunteering, donating, supporting organizations that aim to alleviate human suffering.
