July 23 - World Whale and Dolphin Day

Today, July 23, is World Whale and Dolphin Day

Today the world is celebrating "World Whale and Dolphin Day".

This holiday was introduced in 1986, when the International Whaling Commission (IWC) banned the cruel killing of whales for 200 years.

That is, the hunting of whales and the trade of whale meat around the world is prohibited.

However, hunting them is not the only threat to these animals.

Another major cause of extinction of whales, dolphins and other marine mammals is hunting for dolphinariums, oceanariums and circuses.

Therefore, today is a day to protect not only whales, but also all marine mammals.
