About the largest trading platform - Taobao
Taobao is an Alibaba website launched in 2003.
Today, it consists of more than 9 million electronic counters operated by small retail stores or individuals. The reason sellers prefer Taobao is that they don’t pay anything to place their product on the site.
So how does Alibaba make money? Taobao makes money by selling advertising space that helps merchants who want to stand out from the crowd advertise their product.
Merchants can advertise their products through paid listings or show ads. Paid listings are similar to the Google AdWords system, in which advertisers purchase keywords by auction to place their products on a relatively prominent location on the Taobao site. They pay Alibaba based on the number of times customers buy an ad.
Now Taobao also sells almost everything, everywhere. Just as Google is synonymous with the online search phrase, in China, doing something “Tao” has become an acronym for online product search.
