Problems with the child's speech - Dyslalia

SHARE WITH FRIENDS:

Dyslalia is a common condition in children aged 3-4 years. In this case, the child speaks well at the age of 3-4 years, can express his wishes fully and clearly, but pronounces some words "childishly". For example, it may say “monina” instead of “moshina,” or “sausage” instead of “sausage”.

There are 2 types of dyslalia: functional and mechanical.

Mechanical dyslalia is caused by a defect in the speech apparatus in the child's mouth (location of teeth, shape of jaws). When a diagnosis of mechanical dyslalia is made, speech therapy by an orthodontist will be required. Special exercises that are usually done by mouth will suffice. In some cases, surgery is used.

In functional dyslalia, the child uses the language incorrectly when speaking without any defects in the speech apparatus, speaks without placing it incorrectly, resulting in words being pronounced incorrectly.

The reason for this is:

1. The child's general health is not good (he has an acute illness);

2. Extremely minimal, brain dysfunctions that do not affect other activities;

3. Delay in speech development. This cause is usually caused by an adult. A child’s speech develops late when he speaks little to the child or when he speaks words to the child in his language with a “childish” pronunciation.

4. If there is a defect in the speech of the father or mother in the family, the child speaks by copying their pronunciation status.

It does not cure functional dyslalia until 5 years of age. If a child under the age of 5 is mispronouncing certain words, wait for him or her to speak correctly and fluently, teach him or her poems, and sing songs. But if a 5-year-old is saying “sun” instead of “sun,” then it should be shown to a specialist.

Typically, a speech therapist teaches special oral exercises and reinforces these sounds in a child’s speech in special speech therapy ways, demonstrating the correct pronunciation of sounds that the child cannot pronounce.

In addition, the child's hearing needs to be developed. To do this, read books, listen to children's songs and music, listen to audio tales.

Another little tip is that strengthening the mouth muscles is a great benefit in developing a child’s speech. It is useful to give the child to eat foods such as carrots, apples, sugar or sorrel.
