Ramadan Note: People who are excused for not fasting

The following people are not allowed to fast:

1. A sick person. The sick person is allowed not to fast. Allah bless you: “Whoever is sick or on a journey, (days he could not catch) count from other days " (Baqarah, 185).

A person may not fast if he fears that his illness will worsen or slow down due to fasting, or that he will lose a limb.

After a sick person recovers from his illness, he fasts the days of Ramadan that he did not fast.

2. The person on the trip. The purpose of the journey is to look at the distance from which the prayer tower is to be recited. It is better for a stranger to fast if it is not difficult for him to fast. If a person goes on a journey after dawn, he should not open his mouth that day.

The stranger then fasts on the days he did not fast during the journey.

3. Pregnant and breastfeeding woman. The faqihs have agreed that a pregnant or breastfeeding woman may not fast if she fears that fasting will harm herself or her child.

4. Older people. This includes the elderly who have lost their strength, the patients who have no hope of recovery, the elderly. Such people do not die because they could not fast later, but pay a ransom for each day they do not fast. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “The food of the needy is a ransom for the poor” (al-Baqarah 184: XNUMX). The amount of ransom is equal to the amount of sadaqa al-fitr.

5. A person who is very hungry and thirsty. If a fasting person does not break his fast, he can break his fast if he suspects that he will perish or lose his mind, or that some of his senses will fail. Then he should make up the days he missed.

6. Menstruating and postpartum women. Menstruating and postpartum women are not allowed to fast. They make up for the loss after they have been cleansed.
