December 25 is the day of formation of Nukus district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

Nukus district - was founded on December 1968, 25. It is bordered by Khojayli in the west, Kanlikul district in the northwest, Karaozak in the east, Kegeyli in the northeast, Bozatov district in the north, and Amudarya district in the southeast. The area is 1,0 thousand km². There is 1 town (Oqmangit), 6 auls (Arbashi, Bakanshakli, Kerder, Samanbay, Takirkul, Kirontov) in the district. Central-Oqmangit town. Nature: The territory of the district is located in the center of Karakalpakstan, in the lowlands on the eastern bank of the lower Amudarya. The relief consists mainly of lowland plains, the western part of the Amudarya basin, the eastern part of sand dunes and a series of sand dunes. Height 100 meters. In the northern and south-western part, the surface is composed of fertile alluvial and eolian plains flowed by the Amudarya. It is mainly swampy, meadow-swamp, meadow-bald, and on the banks of the Amudarya there are red-brown and meadow-desert soils. There are favorable conditions for the development of agriculture and forestry. The southern part of the district is geologically a continuation of the Sultan Uvays Mountain. However, its mountainous character is not well preserved in the relief. The high hills alternate with the small alluvial lowlands along the Amudarya. The highest point of the hills is 149 meters (Beshtobe). In terms of landscape, this part of the district is a continuation of the Kyzylkum of Karakalpakstan. There are irrigation canals, ditches (collectors), elevations of different sizes in the district. Building materials include stone, gravel, sand. Lake Nazarkhan in the district, Sapokkol and several small lakes are of economic importance. There are Nazarkhan, Chortonboy, Samanboy forestries. Turquoise wood is used in the manufacture of furniture. Work is underway to restore the natural complex and rational use of its resources in the district. The population is mainly Karakalpaks (60,8%), but also Kazakhs (30%), Uzbeks (8,7%), Russians, Turkmens, Koreans, Tatars and other nationalities (0,5%).
