July 16 — the day of the first nuclear test

Today, July 16, is the day of the first nuclear test.

The world's first nuclear weapon, the Trinity bomb, was detonated on July 1945, 16 at the Alamogordo test site in New Mexico, USA.

🔹The explosive power was equal to 21 kilotons of TNT.
The tower near the center of the explosion was destroyed, and the surrounding asphalt melted into sand.

🔹The bomb test was conducted as part of the US Manhattan Project.
Three atomic bombs were created during this project.

🔹The remaining two bombs, called "Bolakay" and "Meshkorin", were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
