How do whales rest?

Whales lie vertically, head down and tail up, at a depth of about 15 meters. During this time, they remain motionless for several minutes to an hour.

Whales do not need to breathe while resting. Their large lungs and ability to store oxygen allow them to hold their breath while resting.

Even during sleep, whales keep half of their brain active. This adaptation helps them to be aware of potential threats.
