Russia and the former CIS countries will celebrate the Day of Environmental Education on May 2. This day was established in 1991, with the aim of updating environmental knowledge in all disciplines and in all areas of human activity. Today in cities and villages are held environmental actions of various educational and practical nature: exhibitions, conferences and children's creative competitions on nature conservation, people take part in nature conservation activities - cleaning the banks of rivers and reservoirs, recreation park clearing of lands, landscaping of territories. This holiday belongs to everyone who promotes the ideas of nature conservation. It is difficult to overestimate the importance of environmental education. It is environmental knowledge that explains to humanity what catastrophic conditions can be caused by destructive habits in relation to nature, as well as how to avoid a similar consequence. The highest goal of environmental education is the formation of environmental culture. Concerns about the environmental problems arising from the development of scientific and technological progress on the planet were first raised by representatives of the world community in 1972 in Stockholm in June 1992 in Rio de Janeiro convened the second international conference of the UN on the environment. Among the issues raised was the need to disseminate environmental education. Leaders of many countries around the world, including Russia, have adopted a program to implement a system of views on sustainable development of mankind, which will play an important role in environmental education.

 Today, environmental education is one of the most important areas in Russia. Acquaintance with the system of general integrated ecological education begins at preschool age and continues in higher education institutions, training and retraining of specialists in the field of ecology, up to professional development. In addition, environmental knowledge is disseminated to the population through the media (newspapers, television, the Internet), as well as through various projects, which are carried out by museums, libraries, conservation institutions, sports and travel agencies.

On May 2, the Spaniards will celebrate their capital, Madrid Day. Madrid is the capital of Spain, the capital of the province of Madrid and the historic province of New Castile.
