September 16 - International Red Panda Day

International Red Panda Day is an event celebrated every year on the third Saturday of September. It aims to raise awareness about red pandas, their conservation status and the need to protect their natural habitats.

Red pandas are small, arboreal mammals native to the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. They are known for their distinctive reddish-brown fur, bushy tails, and masked faces. Despite the name, red pandas are not closely related to giant pandas.

The main purpose of International Red Panda Day is to raise public awareness of the threats red pandas face in the wild. Deforestation, habitat loss due to human activities, poaching for their fur or as pets, and climate change are some of the main challenges facing these animals.
