What is the difference between gasoline and diesel?

Do you know why diesel, popularly known as solyarka, is used less than gasoline in Uzbekistan? First of all, let's see what are the advantages and disadvantages of both.

Density. Diesel is denser and heavier than gasoline, which in turn means that diesel stores more energy per unit volume than gasoline. Diesel is also a better option for fuel economy.

Variability. Gasoline is more volatile and evaporates more easily (condensate) than diesel, which means that colder temperatures are ideal for gasoline. In hot conditions, it causes detonation due to premature burning of gasoline, especially AI-80 gasoline in the conditions of Uzbekistan.

Power. The turning moment of cars equipped with diesel is better than gasoline. Please note that trucks, ships, tractors run mostly on diesel. But the total horsepower is more in gasoline engines, which is important in acceleration.

Service. Diesel engines are more expensive than gasoline engines due to their more complex design and higher compression ratio.

P.S. The informal term "solyarka" in Russian is "solntsevoe toplivo" or "solnechnoe maslo" because of the connection between its yellow color and the sun.
