How much damage was caused by the Chernobyl accident?
The 1986 accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was dubbed the Disaster of the Century.
The damage in the first 5 years after the crash was $ 110 billion.
The costs are still ongoing, in particular:
- $ 3- $ 4 billion annually for social support of the Chernobyl population;
- $ 50 million a year to ensure the safety of the station.
