What are TORCH infections?
TORCH infections include toxoplasmosis, measles, herpes, and cytomegalovirus. Chlamydia, ureaplasma, and brucellosis are also tested before and during pregnancy. But they are not TORCH infection.
TORCH infection can occur in both women and men. In men, TORCH infection affects sperm development and disrupts sperm count, which can significantly reduce the chances of having children. In women, TORCH infection can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, and many complications.
SIMPLE HERPES 1/2 type
Primary infection with herpes simplex during pregnancy can lead to the following complications:
• Pregnancy disorders: dehydration, termination of pregnancy, miscarriage
• fetal pathology: intra-abdominal infection, spontaneous abortion, stillbirth
• Infantile pathology: congenital herpes, premature birth, low birth weight
In the primary episode of herpes, the risk of infection in the fetus is 50%, in case of recurrence or asymptomatic infection 0-4%.
TOXOPLASMOZ
10 -12% of women with toxopasmosis become infected during pregnancy. The risk of infection to the fetus is 30-40%. If the infection occurs in the I and II trimesters of pregnancy, the risk of spontaneous abortion or premature birth is 10-15%. The risk of congenital toxoplasmosis is 15-25%, and infants have severe conditions (fetopathies), such as small head (microcephaly), hydrocephalus, chorioretinitis, hepatosplenomegaly, thrombocytopenia. The risk of congenital toxoplasmosis is up to 90% if the infection occurs in the third trimester of pregnancy. But in this case, the disease often goes without symptoms
Complications in toxoplasmosis are similar to those of herpes.
SITOMEGALOVIRUS
1 to 4% of pregnant women become infected with cytomegalovirus during pregnancy. In 33% of these women, the fetus is infected and damaged. If the infection occurs during pregnancy up to 12 weeks, it can lead to miscarriage and birth defects:
• Hydro or atcephaly,
• Cerebral palsy
• Eye and hearing injuries
READ: Congenital penile curvature
If the infection occurs after 12 weeks of pregnancy, the most common form of cytomegalovirus - leads to liver damage (hepatitis), lung disease (pneumonia), eye injury (retinitis).
BEET
When the measles virus is transmitted before 16 weeks of pregnancy, the following usually occurs:
• fetal death in the womb
• Changes in the head: macro and microcephaly
• Gregg trinity: eye injury + old age (deafness) + defects in the development of the cardiovascular system.
When the measles virus is transmitted after 16 weeks of pregnancy, the risk of birth defects is significantly reduced.
RECOMMENDATION:
Timely screening of childbirth and smooth and trouble-free pregnancy, as well as testing for TORCH infection, is vital for the health and future of the fetus and woman. A trivial checkup can save you a lot of anxiety and grief in the future.
