About Miswak

The concept we use as miswak means to brush one's teeth. At that time, teeth were cleaned with softened branches of certain shrubs, trees. According to world scholars, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was the first in the history of the world to command people to brush their teeth.

Islam had made it a sunnah muakkada for Muslims to brush their teeth before anyone knew what tooth brushing was.

So don’t think of brushing your teeth with a miswak made only from a tree branch when you say miswak. Cleaning your teeth with a normal toothbrush is also part of brushing. Cleaning the front teeth with a toothpick made of tree branch is effective, but chewing teeth is more difficult to clean. The toothbrushes are adapted to this and can be easily brushed.
