How to find a forgotten Wi-Fi password?

️ ️ Every password you enter and save on MacOS is stored in Keychain Access, the password management system for MacOS. And that includes Wi-Fi passwords.

🔍 Use the search function to open Keychain Access and do the following:

1. In the Keychain Access app, under System Keychains, click the System button

2. Go to the Passwords section in the top bar

3. Double-click the name of the Wi-Fi network whose password you want to know

4. Click the Show password check box at the bottom of the window that opens.

After clicking on the checkbox, the password will be displayed, it can be copied.

✅ On Windows, it's a bit more complicated, but it's worth it to find a password:

1. From the Start menu, go to Control Panel>Network and Internet>Network and sharing center (in Windows 11) or go to Settings>Network&Internet>Status>Network and sharing center (in Windows 10)

2. Click your Wi-Fi network name in blue to the right of Connections

3. In the window that opens, go to the Wireless properties section and enter the Security section at the top of the newly opened window

4. Enable the Show characters checkbox and the password will be visible. Windows also has the ability to copy the password.

🔐 By the way, there is another way to see the password of all connected networks in Windows. To do this, you need to write a little code in Windows CMD:

1. Press Start + R key combination

2. In the Run window that opens, type cmd in the text input field and click OK

3. In the terminal that opens, type netsh wlan show profile and press Enter

4. Once you know the network name you need, type netsh wlan show profile (Wi-Fi network name) key=clear and press Enter and Windows will give you the Wi-Fi password.
