Mosquito bites can be a big nuisance for a child. This is due not only to mosquito bites, but also to various mosquito-borne diseases (especially in tropical countries). There are many ways to protect a child from mosquitoes, all of which can be effective in protecting a child.
Apply repellent (mosquito repellent).
If the child is 2 months to 3 years old, choose a diethyltoluamide (DETA) repellent. Be careful not to let the repellent touch the child's face or palms. The creamy type of repellent is easy to apply to the baby. Do not apply the repellent too thickly. Apply the repellent only on the exposed part of the body. At the end of the night, wash the repellent with warm soapy water. The repellent used for children should not contain more than 30% diethyltoluamide.
Do not use the repellent on children younger than 2 months, do not apply to open wounds.
Do not use lemon eucalyptus oil to protect mosquitoes in children.
Dress the baby.
In summer, dress your child in brightly colored, light, body-covering clothing. A new long T-shirt and long pants will be the best choice. Also, be sure to wear socks and a light hat. It is advisable to wear clothes made of cotton fabric.
Use a mosquito net.
If there are a lot of mosquitoes around the house where you live, put a mosquito net on the window or on the child's bed. If you want to go outside after sunset, cover the stroller with netting. Thanks to the mosquito net, the child is protected from mosquitoes and can breathe freely.
Sprinkle peppermint repellent on baby clothes.
Sprinkle with peppermint repellent baby clothes. In some countries, stores even sell clothes made with such repellents. Do not spray the peppermint repellent on the skin.
If there are many mosquitoes in your area, do not take the child outside in the evening or in the morning. Mosquitoes can bite themselves at any time, but they are very active in the morning and evening.
Mosquito protection at home.
Arrange the children's play area in the dry part of the yard. Children's playgrounds should not be near wet pools, ditches or grassy areas. Do not let children play in shady places. Because in such places mosquitoes usually hide from the sun. Children's playgrounds should be located in a dry place in the shade after sunset.
Replace leaking water, pool water at least weekly. Because mosquitoes multiply in stagnant water.
Close all mosquitoes in the children's dormitory. For example, cover a window with a mosquito net.
