Water can freeze in pipes due to a sudden cooling of the air temperature. To prevent this, it is not necessary to turn on the water regularly.

Why do water pipes freeze?
Freezing of water pipes can be caused by the following reasons:
- if the pipe is not buried at the specified depth (from 70 cm to 1 meter, depending on the area);
- if the pipes are not thermally insulated or the density of thermal insulation is violated.
Often cold air affects the metal and plastic elements of the pipes, their joints, as well as the surface of the pipes.
The scale of such a natural phenomenon can be determined with the naked eye or without special equipment:

tap the pipe gently - there is no sound where there is ice;

often the water freezes where the pipes are connected to each other, so first identify such networks and check for the presence of ice;

check for strong winds where the pipe is on the ground. Cold winds can freeze a slow flow for hours.
Recommendations for thawing frozen pipes at home
Use warm water. This method is selected when the water stagnation zone is clearly defined and it is small. Wrap the open frozen area of the pipe with a cloth or a cloth, pour warm hot water over it and gradually increase the water temperature. Turn on the faucet - this will speed up the melting of the ice. Wet rags, on the other hand, retain heat for a while, allowing the ice inside plastic or metal pipes to melt.
Use a hair dryer. Any device that creates a warm air flow can be used. This method serves to heat small areas that are frozen in the pipes.
However, this method can cause the plastic coating to overheat and melt. Therefore, follow the safety rules when using the hair dryer.
If the bowl near the bowl (sink) or toilet is frozen, pour a mixture of boiled salt (10 kg of salt per 1 liters of water).
