When do baby teeth start to appear?

Anxiety, loss of appetite, irritability and even fever… Such symptoms in children are not always a sign of illness. In particular, in infants, when milk teeth appear.

So what do young parents need to know about this? How to help children during teething?

Our conversation with Kamola SOLIHOVA, Deputy Director of the Republican Specialized Scientific-Practical Medical Center of Pediatrics, Doctor of Medical Sciences, was on this topic.

- What are the symptoms of milk teeth in boys and girls?

"It's obvious in the child's behavior and condition," the doctor said. - That is, during this period, the baby's saliva secretion increases, appetite decreases, gums swell. However, if high body temperature, diarrhea is observed, a pediatrician should be consulted immediately.

- What measures should be taken to reduce pain during teething?

- A number of recommendations have been developed in this regard. However, modern medicine does not recommend applying anesthetic gel and other similar fluids to the gums of children under 2 years of age.

Instead, it is advisable to use special medical devices designed for biting, which are considered very simple and harmless. A light massage of the gums also helps reduce pain. If the pain still does not subside, consult a doctor.

- When do baby teeth start to appear?

- Usually, when the baby is 5-6 months old, the first two incisors begin to erupt. In some, this process may even occur a little earlier or later.

The upper two incisors appear between 9 and 13 months of age. Most 13- to 16-month-old babies have more than four upper and lower teeth. The remaining milk teeth come out by the time the child is 3 years old.
