African philosophy

SHARE WITH FRIENDS:

African philosophy African philosophy is relatively little studied by foreign scholars. Because much of the research is focused on Western philosophy, it can be difficult to spread the ideas of other philosophical schools. Moreover, the situation is complicated by the problem of racism. Important African philosophers include Osman Dan Fodio (founder of the Sokoto Caliphate in northern Nigeria) and Omar Tall (Senegal); both were Islamic scholars. Examples of post-colonial philosophers include Cheik Anta Diop, Francis Ohanyido, CL Momoh, and Chinweizu.

Modern African philosophy is the work of African philosophers, not only on the African continent, but also in other countries. These philosophers include Frantz Fanon, Kwesi Wiredu, Paget Henry, Lewis Gordon, Mabogo Percy More, and others.
