When the computer is running, the operating system, the data of the running programs, as well as the input, output and intermediate data processed by the processor are located in the RAM. If there is a problem with the RAM, all this will work poorly.
MemTest86 (https://www.memtest86.com/) is a free program that allows you to check the RAM on your computer or laptop for errors and performance problems. The peculiarity of the utility is that it is not part of the operating system, but comes in the form of a separate image that can be written to a flash drive and run through the BIOS.
This startup method has its advantages: the program can completely test the RAM, and the operating system does not interfere with it. If the operating system does not start or the interrupt detection works, you can determine whether there are problems with the memory.
The program fills the entire memory by writing back the previously existing blocks of data, and then reads and compares the written information in two passes: moving from small addresses to large ones. The procedure is repeated for different data samples to identify all possible errors.
It is advisable that you check a separate memory module, that is, we turn off the computer, open it, remove all but one RAM module, and check it with the computer running. After the process is completed, we disconnect the current module, connect the next one and continue checking. In this way, it is possible to determine in which module exactly the problems occur.
