May 17 is World Telecommunication and Information Society Day

World Telecommunication Day is celebrated annually on May 1865 in honor of the founding of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 17.

In November 2005, the World Summit on the Information Society (AJJU) proposed to the UN General Assembly that May 17 be declared World Information Society Day.

On March 2006, 27, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution (A / RES / 60/252), according to which World Information Society Day is celebrated annually on May 17.

In November 2006, at the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in Antalya, Turkey, May 17 was declared World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

The goal of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is to increase the awareness of societies and countries about the use of information and communication technologies.
