October 23 is the day when the Republic of Uzbekistan became a member of UNESCO

Uzbekistan became a member of UNESCO in 1993 as an independent state and is actively involved in its work with the Organization in all areas. Considering the work being done in the country, in 1997 the member states elected the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Governing Committee for a four-year term. Thus, from 4 to 2009, Uzbekistan was re-elected as a member of the Steering Committee of UNESCO. One of the historic events was the last 2013th meeting of the UNESCO Steering Committee, which took place in Uzbekistan on November 1998-6, 7, according to which the Tashkent Declaration “UNESCO's Activities in Member States and culture ”. Under the auspices of UNESCO, it is planned to celebrate the dates and anniversaries of scientists who have made significant contributions to the history, science and culture of the peoples of Uzbekistan. Among them: the 155th anniversary of astronomer Mirzo Ulugbek.

• The 1200th anniversary of the scientist Al-Farghani

• The 1225th anniversary of the scientist and theologian Al-Bukhari

• 545th anniversary of scientist and artist Kamoliddin Behzod

In addition, under the leadership and in cooperation with UNESCO, the 2500th anniversary of Bukhara and Khiva, the 2700th anniversary of Shakhrisabz and Karshi, as well as the 2750th anniversary of Samarkand and the 2200th anniversary of Tashkent were celebrated. With the direct support of UNESCO, the Central Asian International Research Institute was established in Samarkand. There are 10 departments and 10 UNESCO social-educational centers in different regions of Uzbekistan, as well as 46 schools under the auspices of UNESCO. During the years of cooperation with UNESCO, the following projects have been implemented in the Republic:

• "Clay cultural heritage complexes, training of local specialists, registration of cultural heritage complexes located along the Great Silk Road";

• "Economic and ecological restructuring of water and land resources in Khorezm region";

• "Preservation of Buddhist heritage sites in Uzbekistan";

• "The art of pottery of Uzbekistan";

• “Preservation, development and transmission of Shoshmaqom to the next generation”;

• “The art of making Uzbek carpets. Opening of carpet weaving and dyeing training centers in Bukhara and Khiva ”;

• "Cultural heritage of the Boysun region."
