The most expensive ancient carpet

• The Clark Sickle Leaf Rug, a 17th-century antique Persian rug, sold for $33 million.

• The hidden buyer of the name of the most expensive carpet in history is very serious about beauty. The 8'9" x 6'5" piece was estimated at around $10 million, but the owner clearly didn't want to let it go, and it sold for an astonishing $33,7 million.

• The rug's previous owner, industrialist and senator William A. Clark, donated the 360-year-old rug, along with more than 200 other works of art, including rugs, to the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. in 1925, and it was auctioned at Sotheby's in 2013.
