Uzbekistan exports to China non-ferrous metals and their products, mineral fuels, oil and oil products, cotton and silk fibers, plastics and others. Cooperation between the two countries in the fields of culture, science, technology and education has also developed. Representatives of China regularly take part in the Sharq Taronalari International Music Festival in Samarkand, and Uzbek folk groups regularly take part in the annual International Festival of Culture and Tourism in Beijing. In 2000, a special committee on scientific and technical cooperation was established. In 2001, the Chinese Cultural Center was established in Tashkent. Since Uzbekistan joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2001, relations within the organization have been developing. Bilateral cooperation is expanding, especially in the fight against terrorism and security in Central Asia. Uzbekistan has been actively involved in the development of the legal framework of this organization and the definition of its practical tasks. In 2004, cooperation was established between television companies of Uzbekistan and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. The Uzbek-Chinese Friendship Society, established on December 1998, 1, has been making a worthy contribution.
