Physiological mastopathy in infants

Hardening or hardening of the baby’s breast is caused by the large amount of prolactin that passes through the mother. It usually begins on days 3–4 of the baby's life, with a maximum of 7–8 days. Then the roughness decreases steadily. By the end of the neonatal period, the size of the mammary glands returns to normal. Enlargement of the mammary glands is always symmetrical. The skin on the gland does not change. The child's general condition and mood do not change. Irritation is accompanied by a white discharge from the mammary gland resembling colostrum.

No treatment is required. It is strictly forbidden to squeeze the extract from it to prevent inflammation of the mammary glands. The skin on the glands is cleansed, the area to be treated should be dry and warm.

It can be compressed with sterilized camphor oil when the irritation is bright.
