A special administrative region in southeastern China (since December 1999, 20) on the coast of the South China Sea, at the confluence of the Zhujiang River. It includes the Macao Peninsula, Hanszidao, Xuao and several other small islands. The area is 18 km². Most of the population are Chinese and Portuguese. Its economy is also based on intermediation in international financial and trade operations. Beach Resorts, Gambling are of great importance to Macao.
