What are the main causes of child death?
As of 2019, 5 million children under the age of 5,2 worldwide have died from various diseases. 1,5 million of them were 1–11 months old, and 1,3 million were 1–4 years old.
Another very large number: 2,4 million infants died in the period up to 28 days, while 500 children are children aged 5-9 years.
The main causes of death in children under five are premature birth complications, birth injuries or asphyxia, pulmonary embolism, congenital heart defects, diarrhea and malaria.
